Fall In Love With Yourself
Original Post Date: August 9, 2023
“Do I trust myself? Am I committed to myself? Do I show myself care? Do I offer myself respect? Do I know who I am? Do I take responsibility for my life?”
Discover what it means to be in love with yourself…I’m serious. Falling in love with yourself can be one of the most beautiful experiences life has to offer. Everyone talks about the joys of romantic love and I’m sure they aren’t exaggerating. What we don’t hear about is how it feels to be immersed in your own love. Some may call it cheesy or corny, but they don’t know. I’ve spent the last few months falling in love with myself and I’ve begun to understand what happiness feels like.
Fall so deeply in love with yourself...
that you tolerate no disrespect.
that you honor your every wish.
that you give yourself every gift.
that nothing he or she could say could make you question your worth.
that you catch yourself smiling when you look in the mirror.
that you validate your feelings even when others can’t.
that you learn to voice what you need to those who love you too.
that you miss the moments you spent alone as much as surrounded by many.
that you don’t hesitate to put yourself first.
that you don’t envy romantic love because you feel fulfilled in solitude.
that you become fluent in expressing love to others.
Some may say you should be lonely when you choose yourself over empty relationships. These people do not understand that fulfillment isn’t restricted to external love. I can offer my opinions on this topic, but I think that Bell Hooks says it better in All About Love.
“We are not born knowing how to love anyone, either ourselves or somebody else. However we are born able to respond to care...Whether we learn how to love ourselves and others will depend on the presence of a loving environment…When we see love as a combination of trust, commitment, care, respect, knowledge, and responsibility…we can learn to extend them to ourselves. (53 - 54)”
The media has convinced us that days full of pampering, consuming material items, or even self-affirmations equates to self-love. I’d even convinced myself that this was true. Now I understand that the embodiment of the qualities listed by Hooks is the true definition. So before you begin or continue on your path of self-love, I ask you to pose these questions to yourself.
Do I trust myself? Am I committed to myself? Do I show myself care? Do I offer myself respect? Do I know who I am? Do I take responsibility for my life?
Some may call it corny or cheesy to embark on a journey that, by nature, can be lonely, but they just don’t know how much happiness is waiting on the other side.
With love,
Allie

Miss Billie can incite emotion simply from her melodic voice, but her relatable lyrics make it even better. My Future has always been a beautiful song but becomes even better when you truly feel excited about meeting the future version of yourself.
